Who is Ric Ocasek?

Ric Ocasek was an American singer, songwriter, musician, and painter. He was born on March 23, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland. Recently, the singer died on September 15, 2019. The singer was best known for the rock band “The Cars” for the lead vocalist, songwriter, and rhythm guitarist. The singer was born with the birth sign Aries.

Education

Ric attended Maple Heights High School. Later, he attended Antioch College. Likewise, he enrolled at Bowling Green State University. However, he dropped out of college to pursue his career in music.

In 1965, Ric met future Benjamin Orr, who was the Car bassist in Cleveland. Orr performed in the “Big 5 Show” with his band the Grasshoppers. Then, Ric and Orr rejoined after a few years in Columbus, Ohio. Further, they formed a band named “ID Nirvana” in 1968. They started performing in and around the Ohio State University.

Earlier, Ric and Orr performed in several bands. After relocating to Boston, they, along with Ann Arbor, and Michigan started a Crosby, Stills, and Nash-style folk-rock band named “Milkwood.” Also, they aired an album, “How’s The Weather.”  Also, Ric played as an acoustic dup with Orr. Later, they teamed up with guitarist Elliot Easton in the band Cap’s Swing. Then, after certain circumstances, Ric got rid of the bass player and the drummer. So, he began a band that fitted his style of writing.

A career in The Cars

Ric founded a member of the Cars. He recorded many hit songs during the year 1978 to 1988. The singer sang a lead vocal and played lead vocalist for many significant songs. Later, he split his writing with Orr and wrote about all of the materials of the Cars’. Then, in 2010, Ric reunited with the original members of the Cars and recorded their debut album named “Move Like This.”

Ric was also reputed as a successful producer. His production credits are “Green Album,” and “Weezer’s Blue Album,” “Romeo Void,” “Bebe Buell,” and many others. Likewise, he also produced the 2006 album named “Teenage Graffiti” by The Pink Spiders, and also a portion of the third “Motion City Soundtrack” album, “Even If It Kills Me.” Similarly, in 2014, Ric produced “Everything Will Be Alright in the End,” and “For All My Sisters.” 

Besides, Ric debuted in his own single album in 1982. Also, Ric played all the instruments in the Cars’ new wave rock sound. Later, for a couple of years, Ric disappeared from the public. Subsequently, he aired other single works like “Quick Change World,” “Getchertiktz,” “Troublizing.”  Likewise, in 2005, he released “Nexterday” in a little fanfare.

Furthermore, Ric also wrote a poetry book, “Negative Theatre.” He appeared in a cameo role in the film “Hairspray.” Also, he had a small part in the movie “Movie in Heaven,” as the role of a mechanic. Also, he appeared on “The Colbert Report” on April 17, 2006, and on July 26. 

Personal Life

Ric married three times. First, he married in his early life and divorce. Secondly, he married Suzanne Ocasek in 1984. Later, he again married to Paulina Porizkove on August 23, 1989. Also, they have two sons together. However, the couple separated in May 2018.

Death

Ric died on September 15, 2019, in his apartment. Reportingly, he is found to be dead by a natural cause.
