Rudy Boesch

Personal Information

Rudy was born on the 20th of January, 1928 in Rochester, New York, U.S. He is the son of Clara Boesch and August Boesch. His mother was a housewife and his father was a butcher. His father also fought for the German Army during World War I. Rudy had a huge inspiration from his father.

Rudy married Marge in 1995. Also, the couple has three daughters together.

Education

He graduated from a Catholic School of Rochester.

Military

Boesch did not graduate from high school and chose to join the United States Navy in April 1945 at the young age of 17. Furthermore, he was a member of the Underwater Demolition Team Frogman in 1951.

Boesch became the Chief of the Boat after being chosen as one of the first SEALs. He also fought in the Vietnam War. He fought with two combat deployments during the war. Furthermore, for his heroic actions, he was awarded a Bronze Star.

Later, he was the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the United States Special Operations Command. Later, he retired from the military in 1990 after 45 years of continued service.

Survivor: Borneo

Boesch made his appearance in the show Survivor: Borneo in 2000. He was placed with the Tagi tribe and became friends with Richard Hatch. He did not win the show. However, he was weakened physically after the show and lost around 10 kg of weight.

Boesch became one of the most popular contestants of the show as the show garnered over 50 million people’s attention. He was famous for his gruff, cantankerous manner. He earned around $85,000 for his appearance on the show.

After he gained fame by appearing in the show, he had offers from various magazines, talk shows, commercials as well as discussion panels.

Death of Rudy Boesch

Boesch suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease which was revealed in August of 2019. There were various rumours of his death on the 1st of August, 2019 but the rumours were firmly denied by his family. However, he died on the 1st of November, 2019 at the age of 91.
