Career
Domestic Career
Virender began to play nationally from the Delhi Cricket team in the 1997-98 season. Also, he was a part of the Duleep Trophy. In the match, he scored 274 and established himself in the career. Furthermore, he became a part of the U-19 team that toured in South Africa. Virender played very well in his first-class career, and thus became a favorite of the selectors.
International Career
In April 1999, Virender’s first International ODI became a disaster as he just scored one against Pakistan, due to which he didn’t get any chance to play for the next couple of years. In March 2001, he took three wickets, and also scored 54 off 58. Also, he received the award of a man of the match.
Furthermore, Virender won two Man of the Match awards, at the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka. Also, his test cricket performance as well, though he could not score much in limited-overs. His performances were inconsistent, however, he came back stronger. Also, he had made appearances in ICC’s World XI for many times.
He made an announcement of his retirement from all the formats of international cricket, on October 20, 2015.
IPL
Virender debuted in IPL with the home team Delhi Daredevils. In the first two editions of the league, he became a captain. Also, in the fifth edition, he became the captain and further, scored five half-centuries.
Centuries
Virender has made the record of triple centuries against South Africa in M.A, with 319, in the Chidambaram Stadium Chennai. This is the highest score in test cricket. Also, he made 300 in 278 balls, making the rapid international triple century. Most of the centuries are record-breaking.

For his outstanding skills, Virender has been able to grab many honors as well as achievements. Firstly, in 2002, he won the Arjuna Award. In 2007, he earned Polly Umrigar Award for the International cricketer of the year. Likewise, for two consecutive years, in 2008, and 2009, he became Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World. Moreover, in 2010, he became ICC Test Player of the Year, in addition to winning the Padma Shree award.
