She is the daughter of Zaidee Mary Barnes and Hubert Brasier. Hubert was a clergyman of a church and chaplain of an Eastbourne hospital by profession, and Zaidee was involved in politics and supported the Conservative Party.

Early Career of Theresa May

Theresa started her career working as a financial consultant at the Bank of England since 1985. She worked there till 1997. Later in 1989, she became the head of the European Affairs Unit. She worked in this position till 1996. Later, she took the place of Senior Advisor on International Affairs in 1996 and worked there for only a year.  Theresa then made her way into the political sector and became the counselor for the Durnsford Ward in 1986 on the London Borough of Merton. She took the position of Chairman of Education and Deputy Group Leader till 1994.

Theresa entered the Parliament being elected with 49.8% of the votes against competitor Andrew Terence Ketteringham. She then became a member of William Hague’s front-bench Opposition team. Furthermore, she became the Chairman of the Conservative Party in 2002. Theresa was the first female to hold that title. Theresa May announced she would run for the Prime Minister position on the 30th of June, 2016, when the position became open after the previous prime minister David Cameron resigned from the position. Furthermore, in the first round of voting conducted on the 5th of July, she won 66 votes out of the 165 total votes. Similarly, she won the second voting two days later, with 199 votes of MPs. She was then in a competition against Leadsom. However, Leadsome withdrew from the position, and May won by default and became the Leader of the Conservative Party. Queen Elizabeth II then appointed Theresa as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on the 13th of July, 2016. He stayed in the position for three years in total and resigned on the 27th of March, 2019. Furthermore, she was succeeded by Boris Johnson.
