Early Life

Tom is the son of Marnie and Roy Henry Steyer. His mother was a teacher at the Brooklyn House of Detention of remedial reading. Furthermore, his father was a prosecutor at the Nuremberg Trials and a partner in the New York law firm of Sullivan and Cromwell.

Furthermore, Steyer attended the Buckley School as well as Phillips Exeter Academy. He graduated from Yale University in economics and political science. He was also elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Furthermore, he was captain of the Yale College soccer team. Later, Steyer received his MBA from Stanford Business School. He was an Arjay Miller Scholar there. Also, he served on the Stanford University board of trustees.

Career

Steyer began his professional career in 1979 at an American multinational investment bank named  Morgan Stanley. He learned a few things about business there for two years and then went to Stanford business school for further studies. To improve his career, he became the risk arbitrage associate at Goldman Sachs, another investment company from 1983 for two years. In the company, he also had his hands in the mergers and acquisitions field. Afterward, he became a member of Hellman & Friedman, which is a private firm based on San Francisco.

Furthermore, Tom Steyer became the founder of a hedge fund firm named Farallon Capital and made quite a fortune from the company. The company earned around $20 billion in his supervision. However, he left his successful company in 2012 and focused on promoting alternative energy. He then made a wonderful decision of eradicating all of his carbon-polluting investments in 2012.

Steyer began his 2020 presidential campaign on the 9th of July, 2019 to beat Donald Trump. Furthermore, He stated that he would be running in the Democratic primaries in an online campaign video posted to Twitter.

Personal Life of Tom Steyer

Tom Steyer married Kathryn Ann Taylor in August of 1986. Kathryn is a graduate of Harvard College who earned her J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from Stanford University. Steyer and his wife have four children together. Furthermore, his wife was on the President’s Council for the United Religions Initiative.
