Plot of Catfish

Catfish is referred to as a person who usually tricks an unsuspecting person into falling in love with them using a fake identity. Furthermore, the term “Catfish” came into existence from the 2010 documentary the series is based on, where the filmmaker Schulman discovers that the woman with whom he had an online relationship with was not honest in describing herself.

“Catfish film’s producers, Schulman, and Joseph along with MTV, help people who are emotionally attached to these online relationships. Various investigations are done in each episode, and they find out whether or not the online relationships that they have been in are legitimate or they are “catfish”. We can see people who have been talking online for years, while some for a few months.

The hosts help the participants check their virtual partner’s identity by learning their story, travelling to where they live and do various background checks to uncover the truth. Nev says that he has received multiple requests from people asking for his help to uncover the truth of their virtual partners.

Nev Schulman and the show’s co-hosts arrange a first meeting between the people involved in the online relationship after contacting the other person and getting their cooperation. The episode then follows the meeting and explores how both people respond after the truth about the relationship is revealed.
