His father was a gangster and scrap metal merchant while his mother was a ballet dancer who owned a gift shop. Charlie Hunnam started his acting career in a TV series ‘Byker Grove’ when he was seventeen in 1998. He appeared as Jason in three episodes. The next year he was seen in ‘Queer as Folk’ as Nathan Maloney, which revolved around the life of a homosexual teenager. This series helped him to gained popularity as he played one of the challenging roles which were beautifully portrayed. The show was largely appreciated and recorded highest ratings at the time.
Following this, he played a role in the British-made teen series ‘Microsoap’ the same year. Then in 2000, he played a recurring role in the short-lived teen drama ‘Young Americans’ for the WB Television Network.
