Dax Shepard is an American actor, writer, director and podcast host. He is best known for his role in the feature films “Without a Paddle” in 2004, “Zathura: A Space Adventure” in 2005, “Employee of the Month,” “Idiocracy” and “Let’s Go to Prison” in 2006, “Hit and Run” in 2012 and “CHiPs” in 2017. He is also widely known for his portrayal in the MTV practical joke reality series “Punk’d” in 2003.

Dax was born on January 2, 1975, with the name Dax Randall Shepard in Highland Township, Oakland Country, Michigan, United States. He is currently 45 years old. He is a son to mother, Laura LaBo and to father, David Robert “Dave” Shepard, Sr, a car salesman. His parents got divorced when he was only 3 years old.

Early Life

Shepard’s mother developed a sustainable business where she worked in car shows with travelling events at race tracks. From the age of 14 to 18, he worked for his mother on the road, going from racetrack to racetrack. He was raised in Milford. He graduated from Walled Lake Central High Lake, Michigan in 1993. Then, he got enrolled in The Groundlings School. After attending Santa Monica College and West Los Angeles College, he got transferred to UCLA, where he graduated with a B.A. in Anthropology.

Career

In 1996, Shepard moved to Los Angeles. He got into the Sunday Company of The Groundlings which is a group that included Melissa McCarthy, Fortune Feimster, Tate Taylor and Nat Faxon, after about five years. From 2003 onwards, he became known from his work in the improve Candid Camera-type show “Punk’d. He continued to appear in its revival in 2012. The following year, he starred in the comedy film “Without a Paddle” and also starred as The Astronaut in a science fiction adventure fantasy film, “Zathura: A Space Adventure” in 2005. He appeared in the comedy film “Employee of the Month” and also in the film “Idiocracy” in 2006.

However, during that time, he began appearing in many films and landed his first main character role in “Let’s Go to Prison. He also did the main role in the comedy film “Baby Mama” in 2008. Then, he wrote the script for the Paramount venture “Get ‘Em Wet,” in which he again appeared with Arnett. Eventually, he wrote, directed and starred in the low-budget satirical mockumentary feature “Brother’s Justice” in 2010. The same year, he also appeared as a supporting role in the romantic comedy film “When in Rome.”

2010-Present

Shepard was part of the main cast as Crosby Braverman in the NBC drama “Parenthood” from 2010 to 2015.  However, in 2012, he wrote, produced, co-directed and starred in the low-budget film “Hit and Run.” He had a supporting role in the film “The Judge” in 2014. The same year in September, he starred with his wife in a commercial for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S.

He wrote and directed a feature-length film called CHiPs which was based on the 1977 to 1983 American crime drama of the same name. In 2018, he launched the podcast “Armchair Expert” with co-host Monica Padman. The show explored the stories of their well-known guests including Kristen Bell, Ashton Kutcher, Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The show featured the experts including the psychologist Wendy Mogel, comedian and author David Sedaris and speechwriter Jon Favreau. It was also revealed that he will be a host of the revived “Top gear America” which will debut on Motor Trend in Spring 2020.

Shepard met actress, Kristen Bell at the birthday party of a mutual friend. They started dating in late 2007. The couple announced their engagement in January 2010 but decided to delay marriage until the state of California passed legislation legalizing same-sex marriage. Then, Bell asked him to marry her through twitter which he accepted and married at the Beverly Hills Country Clerk’s Office on October 17, 2013. The couple has two daughters named Lincoln, born in March 2013 and Delta, born in December 2014.
