Who is Michael Cohen?
Michael Dean Cohen is a disbarred American lawyer. He has served as an attorney for U.S. President Donald Trump from 2006-2018. He was a vice-president of The Trump Organization and also the personal counsel to Trump and was often described by media as Trump “fixer.” He served as co-president of Trump Entertainment and also was a board member of the Eric Trump Foundation which is based on children’s health charity. He was also a deputy finance chairman of the Republican National Committee from 2017 to 2019. In 2018, an investigation led by the FBI culminated in his pleading guilty to eight counts of bank fraud, tax fraud and campaign finance violations. He re-registered himself as a Democrat on October 11, 2018.

Cohen served as chairman of the board of directors of Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School through late 2016. He has purchased several homes in Trump’s building before joining the Trump Organization.
Career
Michael started his career in 1992 when he started practising personal injury law. He joined his hands with a law firm, before joining Donald Trump’s organization. Eventually, he became a close confidant of Trump as he helped Trump obtaining control over the condominium board at the “Trump World Tower.” He became the COO of “Affliction Entertainment” which is an MMA promotion company in 2008.
Over the next few years till 2018, he continued showing his support for Trump. In January 2017, a private intelligence report, “The Trump-Russia dossier” was published which claimed that Cohen had spoken to a few Russian officials in the Czech Republic. It also claimed that he had promised the Russian officials a hefty sum of money if they succeed in hacking the “Democratic National Committee” (DNC). However, Cohen denied having a conversation with Russian officials which led to a probe.

In 2016, the adult film star Stormy Daniels claimed that she was involved in a sexual relationship with Trump in 2006. He negotiated a non-disclosure agreement with Stormy’s attorney Keith M. Davidson in October 2016. According to the agreement, she would be paid $130,000 to not talk about her relationship with Trump. Cohen told that the $130,000 was paid from his pocket and he also initiated an arbitration case against the actress based on the 2016 non-disclosure agreement. However, Stormy claimed that the non-disclosure agreement was invalid because Trump had never signed it. Trump stated that he had personally paid Stormy and that the money was not part of the campaign contribution in August 2018.
Cohen had again arranged a similar non-disclosure agreement to pay $1.6 million to a former Playboy Playmate Shera Bechard in 2017. The agreement had been arranged to keep Bechard silent about her relationship with famous Republican fundraiser Elliot Broidy.
The following year, the functioning of “Essential Consultants LLC” questioned. “Essential Consultants,” a Delaware shell’s company, which Cohen created to facilitate secret payments, Questions regarding the company’s payment were raised, which led to an investigation.
The FBI raided Cohen’s home, hotel room as well as his office in April 2018. The raid led to the seizure of several business records, emails and tax records. He surrendered to the FBI on August 21, 2018. Subsequently, he pleaded guilty to eight criminal offences including five counts of tax evasion. His sentence was scheduled for December 12, 2018, with the judge ruling that he can be released on $500,000 bail. After the conviction, his lawyer Lanny David went on to say that his client is ready to reveal everything he knows about Trump. He re-registered himself as a Democrat on October 11, 2018.
