Ben Simmons was born on the 20th of July, 1996 in Melbourne, Victoria, as the name Benjamin David Simmons. He is the son of Dave Simmons and Julie Simmons. Furthermore, he has 5 siblings, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers. His father was a professional basketball player who played for the Oklahoma City University as well as the Melbourne Tigers.


Firstly, Simmons attended Box Hill Senior Secondary School. However, he later transferred to the Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida since he moved out. Later, he attended Louisiana State University. He played basketball for his college and high school.

Simmons entered the basketball draft of 2016 where he was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers as the number 1 pick. Some of the players in this team are Shake Milton and Joel Embiid. This made him the third number one overall pick of Melbourne in 11 years. He signed a rookie scale contract with the team on the 3rd of July, 2016 and then joined them for the 2016 Summer League. He was named the All-Las Vegas Summer League First Team because of his performance.

Simmons had an injury on the 30th of September, 2016 and missed the entire 2016-17 season. He made his NBA debut on the 18th of October, 2017 against the Washington Wizards.

National Team Career

Simmons was a member of the Australian team for the 2012 FIBA Under-17 World Championship at the age of 15. He was also a member of the senior team at the 2013 FIBA Oceania Championship against New Zealand.

Simmons was selected as a part of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in the extended squad but was cut off from the squad. He has confirmed his participation in the 2019 FIBA World Cup on the 15th of May, 2019.
