Donovan Mitchell was born on the 7th of September, 1996 in Elmsford, New York, as the name Donovan Vernell Mitchell Jr. He is the son of Donovan Sr. and Nicole Mitchell. His father was a director of player relations for the team New York Mets. Furthermore, Mitchell has a younger sister.


Mitchell graduated from the Brewster Academy that is located in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Later, he attended the University of Louisville. He played basketball for both his high school and college.

High School and College Career

Mitchell first attended the Canterbury School for the first two years of high school, where he played basketball and baseball but his career with the school ended with an injury and a broken wrist. He later attended Brewster Academy where he played basketball and was able to pique the interests of some college coaches. Mitchell then committed to the University of Louisville.

The Professional Career of Donovan Mitchell

The Denver Nuggets selected Mitchell as the 13th overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft. However, he was traded for the 24th pick of the Utah Jazz. Mitchell then signed a rookie scale contract of four years on the 5th of July, 2017.

He then signed a multi-year shoe deal shoe brand Adidas on the 11th of July, 2017. His first match was against the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2017 NBA Summer League. He scored 37 points in that match, which was the most scored by any player in the 2017 NBA Summer League.

He made his NBA debut on the 18th of October, 2017 against the Denver Nuggets. In his next game against the New Orleans Pelicans, he scored a career-high of 41 points and became the first rookie player to score 40 points in a single match.

Mitchell became the Western Conference Rookie of the Month on the 4th of January, 2018. At the end of the regular season, he was named West Conference Rookie of the Month for March and April on the 12th of April.


Mitchell has earned numerous achievements from his profession. In 2017, he became enlisted in the First-team All-ACC. Furthermore, he became honored with the NBA ALL_Rookie First Team in the year 2018. Also, in the same year, he won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion.
