DeMarcus was born to Jessie and Monique, with the name DeMarcus Amir Cousins, along with the birth sign of Leo. He grew up with his 5 siblings; four sisters, and a brother Jaleel, who is also a professional basketball player. DeMarcus started his professional career after Sacramento Kings selected him for the 2010 NBA draft. Then, eventually, he signed a two-year contract with Kings on July 7, 2010, worth $7 million. Moreover, he became the Rookie of the Month in July, and also NBA All-Rookie First Time at the end of the 2010-11 season.
