New York Mets

The New York Mets are a New York City borough of Queens-based Major League Baseball team. The Mets also compete in the National League East division. They are one of two Major League clubs that are hence based in New York City along with the New York Yankees of the American League East.

The Mets were founded in 1962 to replace New York’s departed national league teams which are also named the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants respectively. The Mets hence played home games at the Polo Grounds for the 1962 and 1963 seasons. So, their home ballpark was Shea Stadium from 1964 to 2008. They hence moved into their current ballpark, which is the Citi Field in 2009.

The Mets posted a record of 40–120 in their inaugural season which was the worst regular-season record since MLB went to a 162-game schedule. The team has also played in four World Series where the club experienced:

  • Seven game loss to the Oakland Athletics
  • The game against Boston Red Sox in 1986
  • The game against the New York Yankees where the team hence experienced a loss in 2000
  • A five-game loss against Kansas City Royals in 2015.

The Mets overall win-loss record at the end of the 2018 MLB season was 4362–4732, which is also 480 win percentage.
