Seattle Sounders FC is a Seattle, Washington based American professional soccer club. The Sounders also compete as a member club of the Western Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS). The club was hence established on the 13th of November, 2007, and began to play in 2009 as an MLS expansion team. So, the Sounders are a phoenix club, who carry the same name as the original franchise that competed in the North American Soccer League from 1974 to 1983.

The majority owner of the club is Adrian Hanauer, and also its minority owners include 11 families from the Seattle area and the estate of Paul Allen, and Drew Carey. After the departure of Sigi Schmid, the former USL Sounders’ assistant coach Brian Schmetzer hence took over as head coach in July 2016. The Sounders also play their home league matches at CenturyLink Field, which has the capacity of 37,722 seats for most matches. A 53-member marching band called ‘Sound Wave’ hence supports the club at each home match along with several organized groups. For the Cascadia Cup, Seattle also competes with rival MLS clubs Portland and Vancouver.

The team has qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs for ten seasons and competed in the CONCACAF Champions League five times, and also advanced to the semifinal round once. The team hence set a new MLS record in each of its first five seasons for average attendance. The Sounders are also considered as one of the most valuable franchises in North America.
