Background
The event’s headline was a UFC Heavyweight Championship rematch between the current champion Daniel Cormier and former champion Stipe Miocic. The pairing previously met at the UFC 226 which happened on the 7th of July, 2018. The then UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Cormier knocked out Miocic in the first round and captured the heavyweight title.
A middleweight session between former UFC Middleweight Championship challenger Yoel Romero and Paulo Costa was also scheduled for the event. Previously scheduled to take place at UFC 230, at events like the UFC Fight Night: Cejudo vs. Dillashaw and UFC Fight Night: Jacaré vs. Hermansson again, the session was hence scrapped each time for various reasons.
