Demetrius started his professional career after the Boston Celtics selected him in the 2016 overall draft on June 23, 2016. He signed a contract on July 27, 2016. He debuted professionally on November 6, complete with the record of 8 points, along with 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Moreover, he gained many assignments to the Celtics’ D-League affiliate and the Maine Red Claws.
Eventually, on August 21, 2017, Demetrius signed a contract with the Houston Rockets. Furthermore, he signed a contract with the terms to split time between the Rockets and their G League affiliate. However, his contract terminated on January 6, 2018. Then, Rio Grande Valley assigned him and he was the part of the 2018 G League Showcase.
Demetrius, on January 14, 2018, signed a two-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers and NBA G-League. Later, for the 2018-19 season, he re-signed a second two-way deal. Meanwhile, on August 13, 2019, the Los Angeles Lakers signed with him. However, he was waived on October 21, 2019.
