Who is John Sayles?

John Sayles, an American independent film director, actor, novelist, screenwriter, editor, was born on September 28, 1950, in Schenectady, New York, US. Born as the son of Mary, who is a teacher, and Donald John Sayles, who is a school administrator. John’s parents were of Catholic and half-Irish descent. John got into Williams College with frequent collaborators David Strathairn and Gordon Clapp.

How is the career of John Sayles?

John started his career working with the Roger Corman. He used to write scripts for Corman for his first film “Return of the Secaucus 7”. He set a film in a large house to make a film in the low budget. The film got unanimous critical acclaim and held its reputation. The “National Film Preservation Board” in November 1997, announced that the film would be in one of the 25 films for the preservation at the Library of Congress in the National Film Registry.

John received a MacArthur Fellowship in 1983 after the film “Baby It’s You”. He put the money in a science-fiction comedy film “The Brother from Another Planet” that lacerates discrimination. Later in 1989, John created and wrote the pilot episode for the TV show “Shannon’s Deal”. For his teleplay for the pilot, he also received an Edgar Award in 1990. John, in many of his films, has written a genre scripts, like “The Howling”, “The Challenge”, “Alligator”, and “Piranha”. He has also acted in “Matinee”, Dante’s movie. He signed the Not in our Name “Statement of Conscience” in early 2003, which opposed the invasion of Iraq.

He was reported to be writing an HBO series “Scar Tissue” in February 2009, which is based on the early life of Anthony Kiedis. John, later on, February 2010, started his shoot for his 17th feature film, “Amigo”, the historical war drama “Philippine-American War”(1899-1902). The film is a fictional account of events, with the cast like Garret Dillahunt, Chris Cooper, Joel Torre. His novel “A Moment in the Sun” was released in 2011 by McSweeney’s, during the same period in “Amigo”, in the Philippines, Cuba, and the US.
