Bio

Born on 28 May 1975 in Liverpool, Merseyside, England, he was a mix of Indian origin and Liverpool origin. His father was the Indian sea capital from Agra while his mother is from Liverpool. His mother and father name is Joan Bradshaw and Hyder Jaffrey. Raza’s schooling was done at Dulwich College with fellow Spooks actor Rupert Penry-Jones from 1986 to 1991. Raza spent his childhood in London.

After leaving Dulwich college, he joined drama at Manchester University while he studied acting at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. After this, his plan was to join Royal Air Force to become a pilot. He made his university days more memorable by appearing in serval plays of Edinburgh Festival Fringe. It included The London Vertigo by Brian Friel, and at the Pendley Open Air Shakespeare Festival. The final year of his semester at Manchester offered him work with Royal Shakespeare Company chief associate director Gregory Doran. This in turn helped him to apply for Bristol Old Vic Theatre School after which he became a professional actor.

With an intense passion to work in the acting field, Raza Jaffrey made himself active in the theatre industry during his university days at Manchester University. Very soon, Raza took part in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe which was followed by the Pendley Open Air Shakespeare Festival.  He has also worked under the shadow of big and popular names like Gregory Doran, the chief associate director of Royal Shakespeare Company.  This as a result influenced him to be a part of Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. 

Raza’s other plays include ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘East is East’, ‘Cyrano De Bergerac’, and ‘Mamma Mia!’. His appearance in all of the mentioned movies was awesome but the movie ‘Mamma Mia ‘ earned a lot of critical acclaim surprising heads of the people. He also had some roles in the production of Andrew Lloyd Webber including. R. Rahman’sBombay Dreams’. We can also see this brilliant actor playing the role of Kamal Khan’ in the British thriller drama movie titled ‘Infinite Justice’. The movie premiered in  2006.

After movies and films, he stepped towards the silver screen and in the television industry.  His television debut was from ’EastEnders’  in the year 1999 which actually took Raza five years to get the regular role. He was offered a for the BBC one drama series ‘Spooks’ for the role of ‘Zafar Younis’  in the year 2004. Again, in the year 2004, he made his first silver screen debut through  the film ‘Dirty War.’  His other notable role was from the year 2008 in the series named Mistresses’.  The show which portrayed the relationship of four female friends had Jaffrey in the character of ‘Hari’. The 2010 romantic comedy movie Sex and the City 2’  which had Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon Kim Cattrall, and Kristin Davis also involved Raza as a member of their movie.

He has also appeared as ‘Dev Sundaram’ in the musical drama television series titled ‘Smach’.  Another drama series from the career of Raza was ‘Elementary’.  This drama was totally a contemporary look of  Arthur Conan Doyle’s series of Sherlock Holmes. After completing that, he was again seen in the 2014 spy thriller television series ‘Homeland’ portraying the role of  ‘Ansar Khan’.
