Syracuse Orange Football

The Syracuse Orange is the football team of Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. The Orange compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).

Syracuse football began in 1889 and has won more than 700 games. The program claims one consensus national championship, earned in the 1959 season after Syracuse finished 11–0 and defeated Texas in the 1960 Cotton Bowl Classic. The Orange have also won multiple conference championships and produced a Heisman Trophy winner, Ernie Davis, along with numerous All-Americans and NFL players.

Syracuse plays its home games at JMA Wireless Dome, commonly known as the Dome, on the university’s campus. The stadium is one of the most recognizable venues in college football and has hosted Syracuse home games since 1980.

Syracuse’s major football rivalries include Boston College and Pittsburgh, while Colgate is another longstanding in-state rivalry.

However, the main rivals of the team are Boston College as well as Pittsburgh. Furthermore, some other rivals are West Virginia as well as Penn State along with Colgate.

Syracuse football has had numerous head coaches since the program began in 1889. The more recent coaching history includes:

Fran Brown became Syracuse’s head football coach in December 2023 and began his first season in 2024. He remains the program’s head coach in 2026.

Syracuse Orange Football Today

Syracuse competes in the ACC at the FBS level under head coach Fran Brown. The program continues to play its home games at the JMA Wireless Dome and remains one of the ACC’s established football programs. The Orange continue to compete against conference opponents such as Boston College and Pittsburgh while maintaining their traditional rivalry with Colgate.
