Franmil’s career started signing with the San Diego Padres in 2011 as an international free agent. He made his professional debut working with the Dominican Summer League Padres in 2012. Also, he spent the whole season batting .267/.360/.416 in 67 games with four home runs and 37 RBIs. In 2013, he played with the Eugene Emeralds and Arizona League Padres where he compiled a .292 batting average with 34 RBIs and four home runs in 57 games, and with the Fort Wayne TinCaps in 2014, where he posted a batting average of .248 with 59 RBIs and 11 home runs in 128 games. Likewise, in 2015 he was back with the Fort Wayne slashing .255/.320/.393 with 62 RBIs. Also, eight home runs in 123 games.

On May 14, 2018, he promoted to the San Diego Padres, starting the season of 2018 with the El Paso Chihuahuas, batting .346/.442/.738 with 38 RBIs and 14 home runs in 36 games.

On May 14, 2018, Franmil made his Major League debut against the Colorado Rockies. They got a start in right field after outfielders Hunter Renfroe. Also, Wil Myers, both been placed on the disabled list. Moreover, he hit his first MLB home run at National Park on May 21. On May 31, he optioned back to Triple-A El Paso when Myers returned to the Padres. Later, on July 10, he returned to the team. Also, the Indians had Logan Allen and minor leaguer Victor Nova form the Prades, and small league pitcher Scott Moss from the Reds, and Yasiel Puig. On the other side, the Reds acquired Trevor Bauer from the Indians and Padres acquired minor leaguer, Taylor Trammell, from the Reds.
