Education
Dave went to Lake Howell High School, located in Winter Park, Florida. He played on the school’s baseball team. Moreover, in 1981, they won the Five tar Conference championship. Later, he enrolled at Valencia Community College. Also, he played college basketball there.
Professional career of Dave Martinez
In January, the Chicago Cubs chose Dave of the Major League Baseball draft. He then played for the Geneva Cubs, and Quad Cities Cubs in 1984 season. Dave earned a promotion to the Winston-Salem Spirits which was of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League. He led with a .342 batting average. Later, he started the 1986 season with the Iowa Cubs. Again, he gained a promotion to the major league on June 15, 1986. He had a .119 batting average. In 1987, he was in the list of the Cubs major league roster. Montreal Expos traded Dave on July 14, 1988. Dave completed 1988 with a .255 batting average.
Dave played 126 games in total, hitting .274. In 1990, he batted .279 in 118 games with 11 home runs. Likewise, in 1991, he batted .295. After the 1991 season, Dave was traded to Expos. IN 1992, he played for Cincinnati. Later, after the season, he declared for free agency. For the 1993-94 season, Dave signed a contract with San Francisco Giants and hit .241 in 91 games.
For the 1995 season, Dave signed a contract of one year with the Chicago White Sox worth five thousand dollars. Again, after a year, he signed a two-year contract for 1996 and 1997 seasons. In 1997, he batted .286 along with 12 home runs and 55 RBIs. Then, Dave had a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. In 2000 season, he batted .260 in the first 29 games.
On June 9, 2000, Dave got alternated to the Texas Rangers in a three-team trade. Likewise, on August 4, 2000, Rangers traded him to the Toronto Blue Jays. Later, fro the 2001 and 2002 season, he signed a contract with Atlanta Braves.
Coaching Career
In 2006 and 2007, Dave was employed as a spring training instructor for the Tampa Bay Rays. Later, on October 11, 2007, Tampa Bay Rays hired him as their bench mentor. His contract was opted out then in the 2014 season. Eventually, on December 4, Cubs employed him as the bench coach under Maddon. Moreover, he was a member of the coaching staff of Cub that led the team to win the 2016 World Series.
Managerial Career
Dave Martinez worked as a manager for the Washington Nationals. On October 30, 2017, Dave signed a three-year contract with the Nationals.
