A professional baseball team, Washington Nationals, is based in Washington, D.C. As a member of the National League (NL) East division, the club competes in Major League Baseball (MLB). The team first played in 2005 to the year 2007, in RFK stadium, then later in 2008; their home stadium has been into Nationals Park situated in South Capitol Street in the Southeast quadrant of D.C., near the Anacostia River.
The Nationals since 1971 are the first and the eighth major league franchise that is based in Washington, D.C. as part of the MLB expansion, the present national league club was found in 1969 as the Montreal Expos. Likewise, in 2002, the Expos were purchased by Major League Baseball, and the team was in Washington, D.C. Since the third Washington Senators moved in 1971 to Texas, the club was marked as the first franchise to be relocated in MLB.
The Nationals experienced much success in recent years after been moving to Washington. They have won the titles in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2017, though they had to advance out the first round in the playoffs. In 2009, the two teams’ first overall pick in the Stephen Strasburg, MLB Draft, and in 2010 Bryce Harper, attracting new levels of attention for the team. Strasburg was referred to as the “most-hyped pick in draft history” during the time of selection, and later Harper was the youngest player to be selected to the MLB All-Star Game. The Nationals are the only ones in the National League, and one of the two franchises` that has never won a league pennant and played in a World Series, also with the Seattle Mariners of the American League.
