Tulsi Gabbard is professionally an American politician and military combat veteran. She was born on the 12th of April, 1981 in Leloaloa, American Samoa, U.S. She serves as the U.S. Representative for Hawaii’s 2nd congressional district since 2013. Furthermore, she is a member of the Democratic Party. And, she became the first Samoan American and Hindu member of Congress upon her election.

Early Life
Tulsi was born to Mike Gabbard and Carol Gabbard. She is the fourth child of the Gabbard couple. Furthermore, Her father is a member of the Hawaii Senate. Her family moved to Hawaii in 1983, when Gabbard was two years old.
Gabbard raised in a multireligious and multicultural household. While she was a teenager, Gabbard chose Hinduism as her religion.
Furthermore, Gabbard was home-schooled through high school. However, she studied at a missionary academy for girls for two years in the Philippines. Later, She graduated from Hawaii Pacific University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 2009.
Career
From 2002 to 2004, Gabbard served in the Hawaii House of Representatives. Furthermore, she was the youngest woman elected to a state legislature at the age of 21. Also, Gabbard served in a field medical unit of the Hawaii Army National Guard in a combat zone in Iraq from 2004 to 2005. She was deployed to Kuwait from 2008 to 2009.
Furthermore, Gabbard was a vice-chair of the Democratic National Committee from 2013 to 2016. Later, she resigned to endorse Senator Bernie Sanders for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination.
Currently, Gabbard is a candidate for the 2020 Democratic nomination for president of the United States against the current president, Donald Trump. Her domestic policy platform is progressive economically and socially. Furthermore, she supports abortion rights and Medicare for All. Also, She voted and lobbied against LGBT rights in Hawaii before her first tour of duty. However, Gabbard has repeatedly apologized for her earlier positions in 2011 and supports LGBT rights currently. She decided to meet Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian war. This attracted a lot of controversies.

Gabbard’s first name is of Sanskrit background and is the name for a sacred plant in Hinduism. Furthermore, her siblings also have Hindu Sanskrit-origin names. Gabbard excelled in martial arts during her childhood. She was also a martial arts instructor in 2002. She married Eduardo Tamayo in 2002. However, they divorced in 2006. Later, she married freelance cinematographer and editor Abraham Williams in 2015.
