Who is Zayn Malik?    

Zain Javadd Malik who is mainly known as Zayn Malik is an English singer and songwriter. He came into limelight due to his impressive performances on the television reality show “The X Factor.” Although he didn’t win the contest, his talent struck a chord with both the judges and the audiences alike and since then there has been no looking back for the Bradford Bad Boy.

The judges suggested that Zayn Malik and four other participants of the show to come together and form a troupe which led to the birth of the world-famous boy band “One Direction.” But, he moved out of the band and started working on his solo albums. He released his first solo debut “Mind of Mine.” He has also been making waves for his glam quotient and has featured in the lists of “Sexiest Men” published by several magazines.

Bio

Zayn was born on January 12, 1993, with the name Zain Javadd Malik in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. He is currently 27 years old. He is a son to father, Yaser Malik who is a British Pakistani and to mother, Tricia Brannan Malik who is partly English and partly of Irish descent. She has one older sister named Duniya and two younger sisters named Waliyha and Safaa. He had an Islamic upbringing though, he no longer identifies as a Muslim.

Early Life

Zayn grew up in East Bowling, south of Bradford city centre in a working-class family and neighbourhood. He attended Iowa Fields Primary School and Tong High School in Bradford. He grew up listening to his father’s urban music records, primarily R&B, hip hop and reggae. Zayn started writing raps when he was at school and sang on stage for the first time when singer Jay Sean visited his school. He also boxed for two years from the age of 15 to 17. He had planned to pursue a career as an English teacher before beginning his music career.

Career

Zayn participated in the auditions for the seventh season of the television reality show “The X Factor” in 2010. He was eliminated just before the final round of the show. Nicole Scherzinger, one of the judges suggested that he and four other fellow contestants (Harry, Louis, Liam, Niall) who didn’t make it to final round should collaborate and eventually they formed the band “One Direction.” The popularity of these four contestants helped them sign contracts with twp reputed labels named “Syco Records” and “Columbia Records.” In 2011, “One Direction” released its debut album “Up All Night” which was well received by music lovers from across the globe. The track “What Makes You Beautiful” from this album, became a chartbuster upon release. Eventually the next year, the band released its second album titled “Take Me Home.”

2012-2016

Zayn collaborated with English record producer Naughty Boy for several singles, which were released on the music-sharing site “SoundCloud.” “I Won’t Mind” and “No Type” were two of these songs which were liked by many and helped him gain a lot of visibility across the UK. Several media sources had reported that he will be collaborating with the record label “RCA Records” for an album in 2015. Subsequently in the next year, his album “Mind of Mine” had released. The compilation consisted of around 18 songs. It topped the charts in several countries including “Billboard 200” and proved to be a successful solo debut. He collaborated with acclaimed rappers, Chris Brown and Usher for the remixed version of the track “Back To Sleep” in 2016.

2017-Present

Malik released the single “Still Got Time” in collaboration with PartyNextDoor on 24 March 2017. He also released the new single “Dusk Till Dawn” featuring Sia on 7 September 2017. Then he started releasing songs for his next album and started with the song “Let Me” and second with “Entertainer” in 2018. He released the third single album “Soul Diesel” in the same year.

He also released a track for the album titled “Too Much” featuring Timbaland. “Fingers” served as the fifth single released on 18 October 2018. The same year, he along with the rapper Nicky Minaj released “no Candle No Light” and also announced his next solo album “Icarus Falls.” He performed a cover version of “A Whole New World” with Zhavia Ward for the soundtrack to the 2019 film remake “Aladdin.” The same year, he released the English and Spanish version “Un Mundo Ideal,” “Trampoline,” “Flames” and “R3hab” in collaboration with respective artists.

Personal Life

Malik was in a relationship with singer Perrie Edwards in early 2012 and hotly engaged in 2013. But the couple ended their engagement in 2015. He has been in a relationship with American model Gigi Hadid since late 2015. Hadid confirmed that she was pregnant with Malik’s child on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on April 2020 after rumours began to circulate regarding her pregnancy.

Zayn nominated in 38 awards, winning 15 of them for his contributions and association in the entertainment industry.

Malik is British by nationality and is of multiracial race. He belongs to English and Pakistani descent.
